This project was for my FYP(Final Year Project) at university. My idea began with leaning the process of rigging a car, over the span of two weeks I learned this in a test scene where I made mistakes, understood the process and took mental notes of how to complete this task without any outside help. After this stage I took to this BMW where I put the skills I had learnt to the test and built this rig in Three days. Below is short walkthrough video of my rig.
Here are some in software screenshots showing the entire rig and the car in a couple different poses. I really like how it came out and do look forward to rigging more complex projects in the future.
Looking more closely at the suspension rig I have set up, it works really well as I have set it up to be non destructive. Shown in the video below the spring can be seen being actually stretched and not scalled, if it were scaled up and down the geometry of the spring would look deformed and therefore not right, instead it is controlled through a 'Height' parameter on the spring where no deformations take place.
